Description

Lago Todos Los Santos, a scoured glacial basin between thickly forested moraines (ridges of glacial debris), is the centerpiece of the 251,000-hectares Parque Vicente Perez Rosales and the jewel of the Lake District. The park is Chile's first national park and was established in 1926 to protect the extraordinary scenery. From Petrohue, in the shadow of the 2660m high Volcan Osorno at the western end of the lake, a ferry crosses the lake to Peulla. From there a road crosses the Andes to Bariloche, Argentina. Elevations within the park range from 50m near the western end of the park to 3,491m on the summit of Volcan Tronador near the Argentine border. The park has a humid temperate climate and annual precipitation ranges from 2,500mm near the western end of Lago Todos Los Santos to about 4,000mm at higher elevations, much of it falls as snow. The annual mean temperature is 11C, with a summer average of 16C, falling to 6.5C in winter. There are more than 200 days of rain annually. Oh Sig! This is beautiful. It looks just like the place I was this weekend (San Juans), only that was up here. I just posted a pic that looks so much like this one, I thought you'd been back up here when I saw this! What a gorgeous place. I would feel right at home.
