Now, those are what I call counterweights. I'll bet that little ole bridge can just spring open. Interesting ironwork on the bottom of the arms... Oh, and wonderfully seen and photographed...almost went without saying:)

Excellent photo. There used to be the remains of one of these near the hall my old band used to practice in at Sulhamptead. It was removed when the road was re-laid. :-(
