Description

Rendered in MAX with Vray, I am still working toward convincingly merging 2D and 3D..I think this is a step in the right direction. Athena is a download I got from somewhere...all the rest is made in max by me. Comments are always appreciated..they actually really help alot and I thank you in advance! KAP

Very nice, it's very difficult to know what is real and what is 3d.

Wow - you made the forest and all the nature stuff in MaX? Amazing. Really, really nice work. Thanks

Very very nice job. As far as textures and lighting everything looks quite convincing. There are two things I see that are still giving it away. 1. The DOF doesn't quite match the background yet. Notice that the background image is pretty blurry even at the base of the statue. Yet the statue is perfectly crisp. Your DOF also seems to be going out of focus over a shorter distance that you background. 2. I may be wrong about this. It appears as though your statue is in the shadow of the large tree on the right. However, it still seems to be directly lit by the sun. You did a nice job covering the area that would give it away with grass so it's hard to tell. I think if you just get your statue to be as out of focus as the ground directly beneath it you will have a perfect match. This is still leaps and bounds beyond your previous attempts. Congrats!

the background is an HDR picture right?, i used the same one for an hdr test, u've made good use of it, like the way u merged the foreground with the mdr image, looks seamless.

Wow! Thanks for the wonderful comments. One more quick note that I forgot to add. There is only 1 light (for shadowing) in this image I used a plug-in to import the HDRI image into MAX then applied that to both the background and the environmental lighting..Then I used the camera match modifier to match the background texture to the ground plane (major pain in the butt). So I don't know if it's a 'true' HDR Image or not, (I am not very picky about the technical stuff) as long as it looks good) So seraph135 is 100% correct in his observations 1. the hdri was very blurry I tried to match it as best I could. 2. I should have created a simple object to "match" the tree but I got a bit lazy (its only an experiment after all) so the shadow is a tad off....:-)

At first let me congrat you cause the excersise is not easy at all. My comment is about the ground, i think it's a really good idea giving the map to the ground, but there's something wrong about the scale of the map, the ground texture is very closer than the... grass... so i think you can take a look of it. I'm agree about the blur of the background, i woul give a blur to the objects to get a better integration. Very nice work. :) Jose Luis
