Description

Fort Halsey, a massive military installation on the planet Atlatl, sits on the edge of the nebula known as Cooper's Veil, and is the first line of defense for the Terran Protectorate against the Imperial Consortium. It is estimated that, in case of invasion, Ft. Halsey will experience 100% casualty loss, as the enemy knows it is there, and will certainly send enough forces to destroy it. Ft. Halsey's purpose is to deplete the enemy's forces and potentially stall an invasion by inflicting horrendous casualties on the enemy. And if the enemy bypasses it, they leave a well-armed and equipped fortress at their back, capable of inflicting crippling damage on their supply lines and of launching flanking attacks. Of course, the Protectorate expected the Fort to be a deterrent, and never actually see action. And they also don't tell soldiers assigned there that they don't expect them to survive an attack.
