Description

Tower of the Winds Or Compass Point Tower as it is also known. Sitting on the Penhalt cliffs above Bude in North Devon the tower rises over 110 feet about sea level. Erected in 1830s this octagonal building was originally a storm tower. Inscripted on each side there is a compass point which originally gave the correct points of the compass but when the cliffs began to erode in its original location the tower was dismantled and moved to its present position.Regrettably the compass points no longer refer to the correct position. On our recent visit there I wondered how long it will be before it has to be moved once again as the cliffs are eroding quite badly.

Been there quite a few times as I was born not far from here.. I think Cornwall may object to this being in Devon!! ;-) Great Shot

I know I need to take this as a whole composition but I can't stop looking at that water. The color and placidness is pure magic.

I love the contrast between the aquamarine and the shades of green on the land. Beautiful shot and lighting.

great foto , i just wonder was it so hard to look at a compass before starting to rebuild? or may be that day there was a fluctuation in the earths magnetic field ;)

Otherworldly. Must me a moment captured from a fantasy novel where sailors and knights went off to fight the beasts at the edge of the world and rescue the fair princess and retreive the magic amulet---or some such!
