A beautiful image on a sad occassion, Maria. I saw this on national danish television this evening. I am glad your friend and her kids, are ok. It looked very bad.. more than 100 dead..1500 injured, 50000-100000 homeless.. A lot of historical renaissance building were lost, too. And almost just as tragic.. It seems a local scientist and seismologist, Gioacchino Giuliani, saw it coming 2-3 weeks ago. He discovered a tremendous increase in small quakes, and much gas in the air. Usually signs of an earthquake comming up. According to people with knowledge of seismic activity. He tried to warn the local L'Aquila, and the national authorities about it. As a gratitude, they called the police and had him arrested. Forced him to remove the warning from his personal website, and to stop spreading fear, amongst the local civilians. Less than a week ago...the Italian civil security rejected Giuliani's studies. Even after the disaster.. they still reject... how about that. I think that, sometimes, it is worth listening to small people. A lot of people are suffering from this. Animals and pets, too. A very sad event.+5

Beautiful image and tribute Maria! Those rays are awesome! Our thoughts and prayers are with the people there. In Washington (my home state) we lived with alot of quakes, the last big one 6.8 I believe, shook me to the core! Its the one thing I don't miss about 'home'. I am glad your friends are okay!!! Hugs!!!

Un bel pensiero per la tua amica. Sono proprio triste per la gente che vive a l'Aquila. Questo terremoto è proprio terribile. A very beautiful compo my friend !

Lars, I don't know whether to believe what Giuliani said... I think it was just a tragic coincidence! I live in an area where the land is "dancer" and the tremors are almost daily... then we should be in a state of evacuation! As a teacher, I have made so many courses on safety and how to evacuate the students in case of earthquake, but nobody ever told us that earthquakes can be predicted! Unfortunately, when there is an earthquake, you may have read of earth tremors, but also more violent, but there is no way to know what will! And what about Japan, California and other countries at risk? If possible something like this, you don't believe that it would be in the public domain?

Such devastation, and this is a beautiful tribute to the victims of that earthquake. I live in California, so certainly know what an earthquake feels like, but not on the level that one was. :*o( I hope all of your friends and family are kept in safety. Excellent image.
