Description

Here the wake of a boat breaks the regular waves of the river tide. In some way it's a metahor of life. The Students' Dorm of the University of L'Aquila collapsed completely killing many students, and it has become a symbol of what went wrong in the city. It was an ancient building recently renovated, but skipping anti-seismic regulations. There are many stories of human interest told by the media, but two of them illustrate my point of view. Papa Hemingway's great novel, For Whom The Bell Tolls (1940), has always made me think about death in a fatalistic way.Two of the casualties in the Dorm collapse were two Palestinian students who had come here to run away from the war. Last night, by contrast, a girl was saved by the volunteers arrived from Venice after 42 hours under the debris. The quake hadn't tolled her death knell yet. After this one, I'll post merrier photos. Fabulous photo and analogy, terribly sad about the incident. They say only the good die young so maybe they were spared a fate even worse. I love the abstract visual of this, thanks for sharing!
