Description

Here is another one from my friend’s garden. Here I wanted to retain more sharpness throughout the flowers than I usually do, but I still wanted the background to be soft and non-distracting. An aperture of F6.3 helped me achieve that goal. To set exposure, I metered off a nearby area that was in the same light as the flowers and underexposed by about 2/3 of a stop to avoid the whites from blowing out. Since the background was dark and the subject so light, this was enough to sufficiently darken the background. Only postwork necessary for this image was to add a tiny touch of contrast through levels and curves (this helped darken the background even a little bit further and more to my tastes.) I use manual exposure about 98% of the time. Getting it right in camera, manual exposure, and sometimes even manual focus…..geee, I’m so old school. Next thing you know I’ll be using film again…..NOT! Thanks for viewing!
