Description

Animals: It's labor Especially the more dangerous ones. Tailing Following Stopping and getting ready Animals taking off Stalking again Sweat runs Flies and midges challenge Stay calm and collected Stinging nettles Eyes stinging from perspiration Crouching on all fours Looking up Neck muscles hurting Thorns and rocks under your knee A branch hurting your face Blood-sucking fly Sitting on your back And the burning sensation to swat In a place you cannot reach Camera ploughing in the dust and sand Scratching against a rock Dust covering the lens And accidentally You touch the lens With your dirty hands The moment of truth Guide close behind you Nerves tensed Eyes meeting Conferring Agreeing Warning Whispering Disagreement: You want comfort to get closer "NO" Is dusted in the space Between you and the armed guide "It's too close The lioness has young She is very aggressive" Carries across more in lip reading Than sound Adrenalin blinds the periphery Blood pumping Noise rushing in your ears You take aim Limit your vision through a narrow lens As if putting all your faith in God or man The zoom exaggerates her proximity The lioness growls You see a snarl Eyes flashing hatred Camera clicks A heavy armor plate on your chest Keeps you breathing Pumping tight against the inside of your ribs "Gotcha" Echoes in your mind And you feel the slight tremble in your muscles Exhaustion Engulfs your immediate awareness You start to crawl backward For the first time You wonder if you soiled your pants ... Note: Thanks to Tara who helped me groom this. I hope you enjoy sharing the excitement of the "hunt".

OK, Piet. This is very, very good. Tara steared you right. I know I've heard you mention lions before and wondered what getting into and out of their space would feel like. Now, you've given me an adrenaline pumping opportunity to see and feel for myself. And, then you've given me a chance to relax along with you and laugh at the end as you consider what involuntary event may have happened to you enroute. A-1 my friend.

Piet, better than Wilbur Smith's lengthy descriptions of the hunt.

But in the end you know it was all worth it. It's not just the image capture, but the adventure that went with it. Great description.

Piet, you're back! It's been so long since you posted anything that I thought you were a myth! That's quite a perilous, breath-taking, and bone-chilling narrative you've presented us with here. Really great prose and a neat shot of the uptight lioness.

Is there anything you can't do, Piet? You drink in a tree trunk pub, roam the bush to capture Africa's natural glories, and now write the perfect description of stalking that marvelous lion for the camera shot of a lifetime!

Super discriptive writing. I felt I came on this stalking trip with you.

Reading your poetry is like being there .. it's so vivid that I can feel, smell, hear, and sense the hunt. The tension is so thick it could be cut with a knife! The shot of the lioness is awesome, will it be posted full size?
