Description
Based loosely on a short passage in Robert E. Howard's "Red Nails". I love those original 1920's and 1930's pulp fiction adventure stories, and Howard's Conan was one of the best.
I'm officially "ProStudio" lighting's biggest fan.

Thanks. I think my last two or three have been a big improvement over what I usually do, but they haven't gotten a lot of comments. My poor little ego is hoping it's because everyone is out on Easter vacation. Or maybe they aren't as good as I flatter myself to think they are. Either way, I'm in love with Image based lighting. But man, does it take FOREVER to render. This one took an hour and a half for my computer to chew on. I think it needs another tentacle coming out to the left.

Yeah Conan! I love this guy! I must have read 15 Conan books when I was younger. I love the pose and expression. All categories of bad ass! Nicely done.

If anyone's familiar with the newer novels (80's and 90's) or with the movies, you'd be shocked if you read the originals. The new stuff is nothing at all like the original Conan stories. The new (post 1930's) stuff is entertaining reading, to be sure, but the differences are like night and day. Not just in writing style, but in the character. Especially the movies. They're fun and I like 'em a lot, but they're not Conan by any stretch of the imagination. Not as the original author wrote him, anyway. But who cares, right? It's just a render, not a thesis on Robert E. Howard's creation. I appreciate all the kind comments. I was really proud of how this turned out.

I read a few of the newer books, and agree wholeheartedly with you, they are no where near the quality Howard did. I think you did a great job with your render, you even have the facial expression that reminds me of Frazetta's.
