This image was conceived, constructed and rendered on Easter Day 2009 and will just get posted before midnight local time. Perhaps somewhere in another dimension, a place and a scene like this will take place or has taken place on another Easter.... I've wanted to try my hand at a forest scene for some while now, being inspired by some of the excellent ones I've seen here. On a technical note, I learned quite a bit more about ecosystems making this image; particularly the painter which I've not used before at all but also ways of exercising better control over the distribution in a material (which I had used). Both kinds of ecosystem are deployed in this image. The terrain was made in a demo version of world machine and (after much tweaking) a single material on this terrain gave me a sub surface lake bed and a suitable shade for the higher ground as well as hosting the rocks on the lake floor. The forest was then ecopainted on top. A green volumetric spot light was used with the sun to enrich the colours. There are two fish in the lake. One isn't too difficult to spot but the other is better camouflaged than I expected. See if you can spot them both! Thanks for viewing.
