Looks awesome! A cute, fun character, who seems somehow sad ... sure to be a thoughtful film, obviously talented!

Quality as always Chris, some nice specular bloom and DOF, and great subtle texturing as always Very professional. Is one of his fingers intersecting through the metal slightly? And is the sphere used for his neck joint slightly low poly on purpose? (thats all I got I tried to find critz but you make it so damn hard! ;) I wonder if Pixar may have imulated some of your robot stylings, when they creating Wall-E, hmmmmmm..... I'd imagine some of your stuff would have been on the table when they were brain-storming at least, correct me if I'm wrong but you've been creating this kind of work for quite some time. Hope to see the new film as soon as possible! We're watching you!

FATfoe, while I dont think Pixar referenced my stuff for Wall-E, the Nerm character has been around since 2001 (when the original Nerm film was released). Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm working as fast as I can to get it finished!

Pixar should be paying you a big fat fee to come and work for them. Your stuff is easily as good as their's and you a just one person.

Are you crunching this all on a single computer? How long is the average frame render? Do you achieve all of the character's facial expressions through the eye lids? Even if the animation doesn't sell, you could definitely write a book on how you did. I'd buy that book.

Can robots really dart their eye?

chris_rw

1:15PM | Mon, 13 April 2009

bandolin: Right now, I'm doing it all on one computer, although I may need to start rendering on multiple in the future. The frames are generally 20 minutes for a background plate and 30-60 minutes for a character. With Nerm, all of his 'facial animation' is done through his lids, but body movements add a ton to his 'facial emotions' Thanks for the comments everyone!
