Description
The first fossil remains of Therizinosaurus cheloniformis were discovered in the
late 1940s by a Soviet-Mongolian fossil expedition, in the Nemegt Formation of
southwestern Mongolia. They unearthed several giant claws that measured up to a
meter in length. The animal total length was around 8 to 9 m (26 feet), it lived
during the Late Cretaceous (77-71 million years ago).
Therizinosaurus belonges to segnosaurids, herbivorous theropods.
The claws possible functions could have been defense against predators (for
example - Tarbosaurus) and as fighting for territory or for mating.

This image works so well on so many levels its a challange to describe. I'll settle for one thing: action. The sense of action is so strong that I almost forget that I'm looking at one of the most bizzare land dwelling creatures I've ever seen. And, I can imagine feeling the wind that is driving those clouds and ruffling the feathers on the backs of those creatures. I am very impressed.
