Description
Now this one, I think, is good enough to dedicate it. Thank you, crocodilian for all the inspiration.
This really need a full size to see the texture and shadows/depth. (Really needs to be bigger than 512kB.)
Xenodream 2.2, based upon marine illustrations by Ernst Haeckel. Search his name at Wikimedia Commons. (Visit this website if you are unfamiliar with it. It is a fathomless treasure trove of art and image.)

Wow. Thank you for the namecheck-- I certainly didn't conceive anything as grand as this, but I suppose Haeckel did. There's a distinct change in the geometry of this creation, from other fractals, or the ones I've looked at anyway. Most fractal art tends to create the third dimension by just extending "up" or "out" -- eg, creating a Z depth, but they don't really "play" in that third dimension, they just "layer" in it, if that makes sense This one is distinctly different-- you've got symmetries in all directions, a very complicated arrangement of planes. Its a really nice evocation of what Haeckel was seeing through his microscope. It actually doesn't look like it was created by a 2D fractal program, not at all. I would have guessed that it was from a procedural 3D program, something like "Groboto" (which you should check out, if you haven't already-- very cool)
