BIO
For around 20 years I was a professional wedding and portrait photographer winning a couple of Kodak awards but turned to landscapes about a year ago in 2005.In my wedding days I shot on a Bronica 6 x 6 format but my camera now is a Nikon D100 and I feel that digital and Photoshop opened a whole mew world to us guy's and gals. I am based in the UK moving from the south to lancashire at the end of 2005.
So its now 2009..long time since I updated my bio.
Now shoot on a Nikon D200 and process my work through Photoshop CS3.
Been to a lot of places since moving north.Three times to Scotland..going again in September 2009.
Had a week in Snowdonia..brilliant place....cant say the same for the weather we had.Ventured down to Devon...been for a week in Northumbria..had a glorious week on the North Yorkshire coast.Walked miles around the lake district in Cumbria.
Been to west Yorkshire no end of times and that's just the places I can recall.
Tried and tried to improve my photography which if any one looks thru my gallery back to the early days may agree that it has come a long way.
So many places still to see in the UK.We must have some of the loveliest places on earth to photograph here..there will never be enough time.ÂÂ

Beautiful landscape.Fantastic photo.

This is one of those timeless photos. It is from today, yesterday and tomorrow. It is where the world changes around this small world, that does not change. 1000, 2000 years ago...maybe 1000 years from now. On the photo: one just does not see this in the neighbourhood. I love the way the closure walls meander, as if with a mind of their own. Good photo.

If the viewer of this pic comes, for example, from a vast flat place like the mid-west of the USA this is going to be interesting and alien, and could excite much comment. I find it interesting and I live in Dorset! it's certainly not crap, but isn't as stimulating a composition as some of your usual work. I'm not keen on most HDR images, but conversely this photo is maybe a bit too flat in some ways. BUT, who am I to criticise!

I love the contrasting shadow on the wall but as durleybeachbum says, it does look a little flat. Having said that it's by no means crap and definitely worthy of posting here. It reminds me of when I used to go on holiday to Yorkshire many years ago as a child, so it gives me warm fuzzies, as do all your photos of Yorkshire :-) So thanks for posting them and keep them coming.

Hi, here's my 2p. Too much sky. Needs something in the foreground to ground it, like a rock or a tuft of grass. A good book has a beginning, middle and an end; this is missing the first chapter. Processing (tonemapping?) has produced some dark bits at either edge which I don't think are shadow, so are out of context and distracting. It's a nice pic; I've tried these shots In Derbyshire and never produced one I'm happy with, others I've seen & admired have usually been in "stormy weather weather with sunny intervals" and black & white / duotone - I think you have to get soaked to get a good one :(

I can't speak to quality; I'm too inexperienced. But I love those drystone walls, so any shot showing a lot of them gets my attention. I like the pattern of the walls all over the hillside, some great shapes there.

Truth,I like it. I would love to be able to see it myself. I would like to see more. There is so much history there and this is part of it.

it doesn't do much for me. i find lots of your images stunning. i find some just make me want to visit the place you're showing. this one just seems flat. if it had nothing and the tree, it would be great. but the most interesting aspect is the curve the hill makes against the sky and the tree, and both are undercut by the walls and second tree in the foreground. and the second tree blends with the landscape, despite being the largest and most prominent element in the photo. there's no focus, no extremes, and no drama. it's a nice landscape, and still a very competent and clean photo, but not as striking as many of your other pieces.

Being that this scene is so foreign to me and we are tought to envision British lands to be divided by hard-made rock walls and that sheep dot the landscape... this is most delightful. Your pov picks up a great deal of the interest and the softening around the horizon is perfect.

It's such typical Yorkshire Dales scenery and the composition is just right. One might argue that the light is a little flat if one were being picky, but it gets a thumbs up from me.

hi Eddie, I do like the shot but I think it could be improved.. I quite like the simplicity of the scene, and the zig-zagging compo is a joy. I think there's too much nothing in the foreground and would crop it higher, the eye has to jump a bit from the bottom of the frame to get to its anchor point of the wall as it is, then it flows nicely through the scene, creating a dynamic between the foreground tree and one on top of the hill.. for this reason also I think you could crop out the rightmost tree and it would keep the eye going between the other two. I also think you might have over-burned the foreground toward the edges of the frame, but I love the range of greens going up the hill.

I really like this shot. It has too much open area for me though. I think that perhaps your focus should be the tree at the top of the hill. The tree formation holds a lot of interest for me. Perhaps getting closer to the top of the hill and making that the tree the focal point will bring out more interesting features of the landscape. You also might try intensifying the colors at the top of the image. They seem a little light. Over all this is a lovely image and you should be proud of it.
