Description

Just a few minutes after being down in the depths of the undercroft we were up the top of the tower enjoying a nice warm Easter Sunday with panoramic views of the town. First time up there with my new(ish) wide angle lens, which made this shot a hell of a lot easier to get! About the pic - foreground is the east gable of the ruined cathedral, middle distance is the castle, far distance is West Sands. Sorry I can't be bothered creating links today but those who know my gallery can probably identify the locations anyway. This is my first attempt at a postcard of the town. When I'm finished studying I hope to get a number of these together and try to get them into local shops or flog em to the uni to use on their website... could you imagine this in a souvenir shop? Am I barking up the right tree? ;) This is the first shot I've posted which has been edited on a professionally calibrated monitor (also working in the ProPhotoRGB colour space for the first time). Any noticeable changes anyone can pick up on in the colours? Bit more neutral maybe? Hope you have a good evening, Adam (Apologies to the two who left comments on my upload earlier, I removed it to re-edit something which caught my eye then kinda went off the shot and decided to post this one instead) 16mm, f/11, 1/160s, iso 100

Excellent and you kept the angles in the tower in great shape with the wide angle.. Superb POV were you in a ballon or sent the camera up on a kite!

na I just jumped really high xD .. up St Rules tower, quite a twisty old climb.. there's actually a fairly high railing around the top and then the outer wall beyond that... I spent a nice relaxed half hour scuttling around the outer walls with various lenses.. my mate overheard one of the tourists, apparently they all thought I was a pro with some kind of special access out there, when in reality I was just cheekying my way to the best viewpoints hehe... as for the angles, don't tell anyone but they needed a good old distort/warp to get back into shape ;)

Yes I can imagine find your pictures as a postcards. I find a colors just a tad smoother, I like to see a roof color a bit stronger red but this is my personal liking, your pro color set up choose it otherways so I shall be happy with it.

Fabulous! But I nearly fainted when I opened the image at first,it is VERY high up! I should certainly buy this postcard as there is NO WAY I'd go up there! I always buy cards of images I can't take,I bought a super book in Paris of Herve Leger (I think) photos taken in all seasons and some aerial, and some thieving lodger stole it off my shelf when they left my abode! A pox on them!

Ballsy, and lucky - when i went up there there was a woman from the reception desk making sure everyone was down from the tower. I obviously went at the wrong time to step over the railings :( Tones are definitely more neutral, i think you picked up on that, it has a more traditional photography flavour rather than "high impact". As for a post card, yup, but i think you need to present a whole package to get anywhere as i have a feeling all of these types of shots have been done before. No idea where to start on that but i would get on it quick asking the shops even before you have something - so you know what they are looking for.
