UPDATED:Ā September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill andĀ I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008.Ā We share aĀ loveĀ for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting toĀ share photographic excursions and informationĀ withĀ other Renderositians ( isĀ "Renderositians" evenĀ a word? ).Ā LOL
Ā
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameraĀ until May 2008.Ā InĀ May 2009Ā I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
Ā
My subject areas of interestĀ include absolutely everything but with a frequentĀ return toĀ airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
Ā
If you are curious,Ā I am pictured aboveĀ in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport.Ā IĀ used to flyĀ and train others to fly airplanes.Ā ThatĀ will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation.Ā Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Ā
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

oh it's wonderful Bill, your b&w is perfect for the curves & simple tones of the coal car. It brings out their bolts (which were design in their own right), and the sheer mass of these cars, as well as their almost rounded 'touchable' feeling. And the pov allows us to watch it taper into the engine, with its busy ganglia of gears & engine & all the stuff that happens under an engine car! It does have a noble feeling in b&w, and the feel of the shot is what train lovers would call 'the great dignity & beauty of an old steamer". Very finely caught. When I return, I'll check out the color version. (I have to step away right now, but the other version is top of my list). Fine job. I miss those old steamers. Too bad we won't see them again...

Fantastic capture!!

Wonderful pic. I can still recall sticking my head out the windows of passenger cars, and getting soot in my eyes during the 1940s.

Baldwins and Shay's were popular in our hills for logging by rail. Excellent photo

Awesome! That IS cool, Bill! Love steam engines! Remember being taken by my Dad to see them at the Main line north (LNER). Coming back smelling of smoke and dirty. Great stuff! Brilliant. Thanks! Rob.

Wonderful detail shot of that tender. I can still picture the fireman climbing out of the engine, up on there while the train is moving, to see what was wrong when the fire went out. A few minutes later, when he gets the fire going, it's like a belching dragon in the cab with the flames leaping out. Two years ago we got to ride in the 844 locomotive on a historic City of Portland tour, at the other end of hundreds of cameras lining the route. The old boys, our friends, that learned how to keep them running, are getting older, and the knowledge is going with them.

I viewed both of your shots of this old engine and my favorite is the black and white version. After all, color photography wasn't around when this old steam engine was in its heyday. I like the clouds and sky, too. Did you use a filter on your lens? Nice work!

Superb Bill I love Steam what with where I have lived for the past 36 years being one of the homes of the Railway heritage in the UK and two great images today!

Gorgeous contrast on this b&w. Nicely done! I love the light, especialy on the back of the car.

Super POV and 1902 ambiance in this creation, Bill! But I like your color version better, possibly because it has more detail, depth and cars behind it.
