Description

I thought, since I'm going back to Japan next month for my hols, I would fart about with piccies from last year... and ended up with this! This is the DAZ XinXin character posed in front of a photo I took in Akihabara... (spot the maid in behind the orange taxi!) The shadow was an experiment... which seemed to work for once! Thanks for looking. Iain How I did it... I imported the Xin Xin model into Bryce. I used a vertical plane and gave it the texture of my photo and added some luminosity, with the image being the actual light. I killed all shadows (receiving and casting). Xin Xin was placed in front of the plane and rendered, with as close to the same lighting as I could get. Next I gave the plane and Xin Xin a white texture with maximum luminosity. I added a ground plane and then placed a light in the right place to cast a shadow at the right angle. Both renders were imported into PhotoShop where the shadow layer was given the magic rubber treatment so that only the shadow was left. This was then given a slight blue hue and lihtened a wee bit to match the taxi's shadow. I then tweaked the colours and that was that. Hope that made some sense to somebody ^_^

Black levels: Her's are very deep, briefcase, skirt, pinafore. The background blacks are elevated. My recommendation would be to ease the difference between those two. Even if you're going for "atmosphere" the background needs darker blacks. And in fairness, her textures aren't really up to the challenge of competing with reality. But its always good to see the attempt.
