Description

The owner of this truck lived around the corner from my apartment and would park in an alley that ran parallel to the Ravenswood/Brown Line El tracks. I would see it sitting there in all of its rusted glory every time I went to work. It amazed me that it was still in use on a daily basis, hauling scrap metal around. There were times I couldn't tell the difference between the scrap and the almost 50 year-old truck hauling it. 1958 Chevrolet Apache pickup, photographed in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago in June, 2007.

Haha...I kicked you offline so I could make this comment! :-) This is a great photo, the rust and the crisp, vivid blues are fantastic. I love the whole composition, especially since it looks like one of those parts of Chicago that actually make up the personality of the city. Great, moody work.

I go along with chipka. The rusty truck and the weather wood in the stairs really go together. Even the patches of good paint add to the overall feeling. Stunning work, corey.

A well-loved trusty old truck; I'm sure it still runs perfectly too! Great shot!

An absolutely delightful capture! It has everything .. the contrast between the lush greenery and the truck that will not die, and the backs of the apartment buildings with the wooden fire escape stairs .. the various textures of the walls and the colors and .. oh I do love this shot! Carol is so right, chevy trucks just will not die! I was heart broken when hubby sold our old one.

lol, "not dead yet"...great title. And even if it were dead, it wouldn't be dead. This was the photo that began my absence, and I regret that I can't comment on everything I've missed because of time, so I'll do some now and try to do some others in later sessions. A wonderful capture of the 'inner life' of a decaying truck; it's rusted and molded (or whatever happens to old metal), but it's alive. All that decay sings. And it's also a symphony of greens & blues; it's wonderfully coordinated with the blue-grays & green-grays of the buildings around it, and the truck stands out beautifully in the midst of it all. A wonderful composition, the angle allows all the layered parts of the shot to show up; and it's urban america, and feels very much like the neighborhood it's in. I knew that area years back, and it's quiet, sedate, not too bold but very neighborhood-y, and this gets its feeling very well. Really, Corey, this could be in Providence R.I. or Stamford Conn, or a lot of other places too. It's just so urban america. Beautiful shot. (PS, it's great to see you & chip comment on who kicked who offline, or that one of you saw this truck 2 days before the shot and wondered if the other had the guts to post it, etc etc. Adds a nice drama to the whole thing. If you really wanted to wake people up, you could come online and scream that chip stole that pear from you and you're pressing charges. It'd be a lot more exciting than 3/4 of what goes on the web, I promise you that...)
