Nice elephant. If you want to get rid of the "plastic" look, try playing with the settings on the surfaces tab. Select View, Tabs, Surfaces to open that panel. Select the elephant and change light settings to matte at the bottom of the advanced tab. Also, there are nice free shaders out there. Look for pendragon.
