Description

Earthday came and went..with it a few folks met examples of feathered inhabitants of our area...and found these creatures captivating and perhaps deserving of life considerations. The American Kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America and varies from its English relative. This one is a lady. Most raptors gender cannot be distinguished by coloration but the kestrel has distinct differences in male and female. This small bird is quite capable of flight but was imprinted on humans some years ago and would not do well in the wild. If fully extended, the wings would show the typical falcon form.

Wow! I have never seen those markings so clearly on the flight feathers before! I don't know that I've ever had the chance to observe one from the back before and there is a wonderful world of things to see in their build and markings! Stellar shot, Tom.
