“The ranger, uh,… Tyrion. He was on patrol and refused to let the regular Syvasgaard village constabulary go without him. Frankly, I think he didn’t want his picture taken. Paranoid type apparently. The Kobold. Well they couldn’t find anything for her to wear. The Thune? Well, we thought it better that he not be in the picture, considering the state of things.”

“What about Her Holiness, the Reverend Mother, and the others of the Midnight Rose?”

“They chose to not be involved. Apparently the ball coincided with a house warming that Miss Gildenoak was throwing at the Reverend Mother’s new home.”

“Very well. This should do. Have a large copy produced for the palace art collection,… and send my royal regards to the Princess Neferites. I think its time we met personally.”

“And the others, Sire?”

“Nothing. However, send Miss Shanahan my regrets. I shall have to delay our rendezvous. Ah, yes. Do let Baroness Augustine know that I accept her gracious invitation. I’ll let her know when I make my way to Falen.”

“There is the matter of the Duke’s funeral, Sire.”

“I’m aware of that, Herald. I will not make my comings and goings public knowledge. That much you should have learned from Lord Summerville.”

“Yes, Sire. Which reminds me. There’s a message for you from the good Lord Marshall.”

“Really. I can only assume he hates retirement and wishes to come back to work. I’ll deal with this personally. He was my mother’s Guardian, not mine. He’s retired and deservedly so.”

“Will there be anything else, Sire?”

“Yes, let Lord Mordakai know I’ll see him now, and this Janakhan. We’ll see if she is who she claims to be.”
