Description

This shot has gone through a lot and probably been thought about too much. My idea in lighting this was to present most of the body but to draw attention upwards to the face via the shadows (which are real not Photoshop). What I think is not so good about this theory is that her suit is so detailed that it is deserving of more light than shadow. In other words, this should have been lit for the suit not so much for the model. Perhaps a more subdued one piece would have suited the lighting better. Anyhow, I still like the piece even if its motifs are in conflict and I cannot deny how well light reflects off this talented young woman, so here she is.

Lights are 22 in. beauty dish camera left, and a ringflash in a 30 inch softbox for accent from behind and camera right. Huge white foamcore reflector standing to camera right and in front to control contrast. Single diffuse layer in Photoshop acting at about 20 percent on overlay is the only postwork. nice job - great concept! I think you're right about the suit, and that it would really have stood out had she been wearing something a little darker and less eye-catching.. kudos for doing it all in-camera tho and taking the time to get the lighting right ;)
