Description

Taken in the town of Valley Head, Alabama. Bill, you made a comment about me posting another rust colored car, well I had a few to choose from but after coming across this barn and knowing how you adore these old run down barns like I do, I hoped you would prefer this. Now how many people can say they adore old run down barns, or the hope that they remain intact forever. I actually came across this barn when I had went to make a turn around on a highway, I saw a sign for Sequoyah caverns so used their entrance as a turn around, there was a small bridge there to cross and when I looked over to my left I noticed this barn off to my left hidden in the trees. In case you can't figure out what the sign says. It say Phillips 66 (gas station sign) and then its showing if you turn left you are 877 miles from New York City, and if you head to your right you are 462 miles from New Orleans, the highway I was on U.S. 11 was built in 1926 and extends 1645 miles and goes through 10 states. And it sure seemed to be a favorite for bikers who were out their enjoying the beautiful countryside. I think I would have headed south to New Orleans.

I hope you will take a look at Bill's gallery

Thanks for all your comments on my latest photo I titled 1941 Chevrolet.

Christmas colors all around while on your way to New Orleans in this unique capture, Lynell! Plus great framework, as usual. I would say a machete, pruners, a lawn mower, and probably a shovel are in order here.

Thanks for thinking of me Lynell. I love these places and buildings that have becomed byassed by the modern highway system developed over the past 40-50 years. Here the old barn and old Highway 11 are perfect examples. I first drove to Southern California from New York in 1962 and had the interesting opportunity to drive from Chicago to Barstow, California on the classic Route 66...which was still all intact. Thanks again...great photo here. An instant favorite.
