Description

They travel at night, the woman and the girl, keeping to the shadows and avoiding the cities. The girl is young, fourteen, maybe fifteen, and Bradek says she is Man's last hope. She has an innate understanding of the machines, how they work and think. Lyssa has seen this, seen her bend machines to her will, force them to obey her commands, but only when they are subdued already. How much use this will be in a real fight Lyssa cannot say, but she understands. This is hope... So they travel at night, making their way to the safe zone. Its a long, dangerous journey, and the girl must not die. Darkness conceals them, provides some cover for their movements, but it is still perilous. The last city stands between them and safety, and there's no way round. The only option now is under... the sewers... But these are not without their dangers. Rats, disease, a locked gate... ..and the patrols have found them. Lyssa will fight if she must, her chances are slim, but she will fight to the death. And the girl will run, Lyssa will make her run, because she is Man's last hope. And hope must not die...
