Description

After the arduous crossing of the Gedrosian Desert, the return from Alexander's campaign to conquer the world, the king was exhausted and seriously wounded. Celebratory games were held though, as custom dictated. Dancing was the last, after athletics. Bagoas (Alexander's only historically acknowledged lover) won the contest, largely by acclamation of the army. Alexander placed the winner's wreath upon his head. Plutarch relates that the soldiers clamored for Alexander to kiss the victor as well as crown him. It was the Persian boy's greatest triumph, but also the beginning of the end.
