Description

This is the complete statuary group, and in a colored pic, the statues are a little weather-battered. The statues are on the terrace which serves as a passageway to the university canteen. You see them all of a sudden when you have climbed the last steps of the stairs, among the students going to the canteen, to their classes or just hanging around. In fact, looking at them from a distance, I realized that the cyclists were not real, just because the students to and fro the canteen passed by without a glance to them. Some of the people in the photo on the right look at the statues a little puzzled, as if they were new to the place. I think that the artist's intention was creating a sense of surprise in the viewer, seen the location, the size and the camouflaging colors. And the viewer's surprise is as much part of the piece of art as the material used by the artist in this playful, post-modern work of art. On the other hand they are conveying the message that there is a gym nearby, and that fitness is good at all ages!

This is super...I do like the couple walking hand and hand off to the right. Maybe they are enjoying you? We have a museum nearby with one museum guard that you'd swear was real until you get within 10 feet of him:)

I have always felt that statuary such as these should be seen more in public. As you show, it can bring smiles, stir a memory or make people feel they are part of a larger group. All very good things. Wonderful captures and I like seeing the relationship of figures on the street.
