Description
The Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio palinurus) is a butterfly found primarily in South East Asia and is one of the very few green butterflies around. It is also referred to as Emerald Peacock or Green-banded Peacock Swallowtail
There are several subspecies (from Burma, Borneo, Indonesis, Nias and the Philippines). Text from Wikipedia.
This particular one was I believe on its way out, getting close to its sell by date. This link shows what it should look like:

fascinating! It looks to me as though the opposite might be true, that it is recently emerged and still unfurling! Danny will know!

Nice work! Great pictures.

He does look a little worse for wear, but still a very beautiful butterfly! The curled wing edges are a surprise, I must say. Nicely captured, Jeff!

Thank you for the closer look, my dear. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that you had these shots in your file! :) I checked the link. The specimins shown on Wiki are a bit more tidily unfurled, but your shots have better color and detail. Plenty of information here to make me happy! I had no idea there was such a beautiful irridescence on the black part of the wings. Gorgeous!!

Two excellent close shots of this unusual butterfly, far better than any I have in my files of this one. This is the one that crawled right up my sleeve and onto my neck and I wasn't too happy thinking it would soon be crawling on my face lol.

I decided to check up on your recent postings and what a treat. First off, I have been absent for several months so I was not aware you needed to be persuaded to start posting again. I am glad you did. Secondly, I did not expect to see a bunch of butterfly pics. I don't know which was more enjoyable - seeing the beautiful butterflies or vicariously enjoying your trip. It is great to have a friend with you when such opportunities arrive. Last but not least, since getting new camera equipment - I have become more interested in the exif info that is available on some posted images. I noticed yours indicate you had focal lengths of 6 - 7 mm several times. I looked up your camera and saw nothing that indicated such short lengths. Am I missing something - how do you get 6mm focal distance with a 28mm (or there about) min focal distance lens. I am so confused, lol. My thanks to those responsible for your return and I wish you good health and many such glorious trips with friends. Lee
