Description

This was the scene across the street from my house last night, the fire is still burning out of control but due to the wind changing direction the fire moved away from the house. At this point in the photo the fire is maybe 100 feet or so from my place. I stayed up quite late watching the fire. For 2 hours fire trucks when by the house about every 15 minutes as new deparments from neibouring areas arrived to help. There were 3 helicopters and 1 drop plane working between me and the fire. I was trying to get a pic of them but by the time they came into view so i could get a line up they were gone again before the camera would go off due to that camera delay thing.

Lucky for us it has been mainly trees. We have a staggering number of trees here in this city (yes this picture is taking inside the city limits). If I was to turn around and take a pic you would see all kinds of houses. At this point I have heard that there has been 8 to 10 houses lost. Considering it has been burning since Wednesday night that is pretty good. Speaks well of the 10-15 fire departments that are on the scene fighting the fire.

This is frightening! I hope winds die down today and you will be safe. Did the house across the street escape damage? PHEW!

Que coisa terrivel, espero que possa haver um controle rápido, e que não sejam pessoas muito machucadas e perdas

That is so scary, I'm glad the wind has shifted and I'll wish you some rain. It's a great photo all the same--lets hope it's the only one of it's kind you'll have to take!

OH Mike that is so frightning. I don't think I would be able to sleep. Did you wet down your roof? I hope they get the fire contained soon.

Glad your safe! Fire fighters have my admiration, It's a huge job fighting one of those things! The rain should help slow it down quite a bit, but never seems to be enough to cure the problem. only takes a day or so to dry out again.... Excellent shot Mike!
