Description

As allreaedy stated ... Oil on canvas 30x40" The blacks/ darks are actually... thalo blue and mars brown... The palette is the same as used in the last painting .. it's amazing what can be done with 5 or 6 colors thru mixing and blending! And now I have to talk to you people on a more serious topic .... vintorix has run amock ... their's no stopping him now ..... He's stolen my painting and made a stainded glass window outta it ... And I do believe he intends to sell and install it all over Narnia!!! I asked you guys to help me have him arrested , before he got outta control ... but you all stuck up for him ... their's no stoppin him now !!!!! Every story needs a villian.... and vintorix is mine !!!! In all honesty he made a nice immage outta it go to his gallery to see ..... !!! Artwithin... yes I do things at times to stir up the pot... keeps me on my toes that way!! Adrie I thank you for your gracious words ... You probably wasted your time by putting me on your favorites!!! And lastly I gotta say this: No matter the art form ... if it comes from the heart weather digital or photographic or any other means It's Art ... sometimes imagages are displayed just to show some technical skill .... Is that art? .... I ask you ?.... Technical expertise .... or Art? If the image is designed to tittilate or create a sexual response from the viewer then , there are porn sights that can do that so much more effectively..... just my thoughts!!! tom

Love it ...one thing I don't like about this site....it doesn't show the true aspect, so to speak, of the colors, they are sooo vivid! I'm in love with the sky and the background ..I hope that "Jesus" will appear to be the same, that transparent image ..Tom , you know what I'm talking about! Love you immensely! Your Buggy Trina

Hi Tom It is really fascinating to follow your masterpiece evolving! It's a unique opportunity to peek at your inner world.Your composition and color tones are excellent, I like the expression on the warrior's face and the dramatic blue colors of the sky that emphasize the conflict to come. However, there is a thing that disturbs my eye: the warrior's limbs - hips are too short and legs are of a ballerina - some extra muscles needed! Hope you don't find my suggestions offensive. As about painting methods you might be interested in one of translucent layers of oils with slightly colored glazing. It takes about as 20 30 layers some time and it is a lot of labor but the final effect is exceptional! Waiting to see more of your paintings Hanna

Still reading all comments and watching the painting develop step by step. Fascinating process. Really relaxing here, ...135th running of the Kentucky Derby later today at Churchill Downs. That has absolutely nothing to do with your painting but thought you might like a momentary diversion later in the day:-)

maybe the word itself needs to be renewed, art is such an old term, why should it be something .... good? who says that? libraries? art schools? some famous spirits? i think that all is open, to me, i dont watch out for any kind of definition, anymore, was trapped long enough between the thoughts of my teachers, old books, schools. i think populism and orthodoxy is nothing good at all, these are old realms. i think we have to renew ourselfs, to free ourselfs from these old old paths ... my thoughts of the day, fine progress again in your image, the rocks and trees look awesome! liberté toujours :)

What, was it not finished? Seriously Tom this is the best of your works so far, I should have waited before I stole it! Best regards vintorix, "breaking the law is my favorite" P.S. Do you have a sister? Edit: As I have said before it is impossible for us digital artists to approach the traditional painters for two reasons. For the first they know how to draw (among other things). To draw is the basis of all art. For the second it is impossible to create an image of that size in the computer, it would be equal to try to make a 5x5 meter painting on a tiny screen, :) And even if that was possible it would lack the look and feel, the pencil strokes, the authencity of a real painting. A print only survive a few decenniums while paintings even after several hundred years look as fresh and new as they were painted yesterday. But still I think that the digital arts have a place. It is my belief that in the future great artists will master both media. So that they can make a first version in the computer, with all the advantages of "playing" and experimenting. And then do the real painting, not only copying the computer version but using it as a springboard to new heights.

Nice progress with the rocks, Tom. Art? To me art is any expression of a passion one has for what they do. That passion is an expression of the person, what is within them. They give or share it with others, whether at work, or at home. It takes on many forms and disciplines, including the technical. Where art becomes something else, is with the viewer. When they fail to make it something meaningful to their experience, and when they cannot see beyond judgment.

What...? Is this rip off thing contagious? People are taking anyone's art & doing what they want with it & even posting it. Now, is it just me... or isn't that just plain wrong? Like..."Lets see if we can take a little piece of this person's soul & twist it". That's what stock is meant for. I'm appalled at this whole trend. I've come to feel somewhat connected to this piece, following it as I have & it angers me to see it trashed. I guess that belies the whole 'subject' of the painting, but still. I've seen too many friends of late closing their galleries from what has been going on here & some of us have been here for many years. Now. With that said... I'm off to find you a lawyer that won't melt like a chocolate bunny.

Savagedragon , I apreciate your concern .... But please understand the spirit that I know vintorix has done this in ... it is in the spirit of fun and was motivated by the ongoing chatter that I've both encouraged and enjoyed immensely !!! It has been extremely fun, and I'm not worried about vitorix's / Ralphs usage of this work as I believe I understand his motivation ... and am not concerned at all , as I have a strong sense of his moral and artistic sensibilities!!! tom

Well, I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far. I like how the rocks are coming to life, and hope that you leave Jesus pretty much as he is. I like how he is solid from his head, fading to translucence as one follows his figure down. Somewhere I'm missing something .. I've gone to vintorix's gallery and have not found a single stained glass window. So where the heck am I going wrong? And I agree that art is what comes from the soul, no matter the medium. Also that one man's art is another man's junk. Each to his own.
