'there their two things came before the dawns: the sounds of a bell and the mingled perfumes from neighboring bakeries and the brewing in the kitchen, seemingly too many for a few-- they would have it black and unsweetened, and the other without butter until the cows came home...' the excerpt was written oddly, from an altitude of listening without understanding.
