Description

The Star of India is a full-rigged iron Windjammer ship built in 1863 as 'Euterpe' in Ramsey, Isle of Man. She is the fourth oldest ship afloat in the United States, after the 1797 'USS Constitution', the 1841 'Charles W. Morgan', and the 1854 'USS Constellation', and is the oldest ship in the entire world that still sails regularly. In 1897, after 21 round-the-world trips the 'Euterpe' was sold. She sailed primarly between England and India and England and New Zealand. She was registered in the United States on October 30, 1900. In the early 20th century she carried fishermen, cannery workers, coal and canning supplies between California and Alaska. She also made ports of call in Australia and Chile. She is now part of the San Diego Maritime Museum in downtown San Diego. Displacement: 1197 tons gross Mast height: 38.8m (127 ft 4 in) Main yard length: 22m (72-ft) This picture was taken on 16 April 2009. Thank you for viewing, commenting and any favs, Sig...

I recognized it immediately before I even read the image title or the encryption. I always loved the Star of India and enjoyed seeing it almost every day during the time I spent in SD, took a few shots of her myself at the time. Awesome shot, thank you!

Great shot of a grand old lady. Now that low, black hull in the background looks like something The Weese would be interested in.
