Description

A reflection of the Victorian era which continued for many years after and perhaps even today with ASBO being prevelent in our society! Are Children meant to be able to conform to their parents, or maybe we have missed something of the rigid ways of old? This school room struck a chord with me, as quite cleary Victorian children were taught to be quite vocal in some of their studies!!

I remember being on the receiving end of a thrown blackboard rubber or two for not paying attention not that long ago honest :-). Excellent use of natural lighting again in this shot.

Well I am not of the Victorian era, but do remember the old school board and the same sort of writing on it, just like the one in your photo. Also believe it or believe it not, that room was very much like the village school my 2 youngest children went to, even with the old fashioned fireplace or range with the guard around it. The school was built in the eighteen hundreds and remained the same up until about 15 years ago. Progress eh LOL, Great photo Danny, thanks, hugs Jane xx

Superb image, and looks very good in black and white, an era gone by, and some good things lost in the passage of time.

besides your lush landscapes and bird shots and nature shots, etc etc, there are your interior shots, some of which positively drip in gentle age and the patina of all things past (good and bad). It always amazes me to see how many ways you capture aged interiors. This uses b&w very well; you have luminosity in several places, as on the wood or on the railings; and the shadow truly speaks of age, as does the layout which is clearly for a close interaction with the teacher rather than the larger school-rooms of today. There was, of course, much cruel about that time, and there's a feeling of that here too. It's nice that you got the high wall—you didn't crop it out—and a bit of that painting, which only adds to the feel of the place. Another fine mood-piece from you, yet filled with concrete details. And your monochromatic treatment is marvelous.
