Description

This was taken at the end of March, the Grackles were all pretty much back from their winter quarters, and in a state of shock because their pine trees were gone! The neighbor had cut them all down because they were diseased and dead or dying. These birds are so funny when they call out, they ruffle their feathers and puff themselves up to make themselves look big and intimidating to the next male bird! A little bit cropping, and a bit of post work to get the framing right, and so a little bit of layering. I've been taking some time off from the galleries, still trying to view and comment on a few here and there. So much stuff to do in the spring, windows to wash, screens to put back in, spring cleaning inside the house as well as in the yard. I will keep trying to catch up, isn't that everybodies lament lately? Thank you to all who found time to stop and see the last posting, "Dali's Dream", thanks for all the treasured comments, I loved each and every one! Thank you for all the faves, and most of all, thank you for being here!

PS: don't bother with full view, grins, it's not as crisp as I'd like it to have been, but I liked the photo!

I liked the full view! He does look a bit annoyed that his tree is gone, I know that I'd be ruffled as well.... Great shot Rita. Do fully understand about the spring mess.

Great capture. I love that expression and pose with the ruffles. I love grackles and their iridescent feathers. I actually like the soft focus look of this as it has a softer painterly texture which seems appropriate for this time of year.

A super capture and he does look to be upset about losing his trees. You managed to get pretty close to him too. The birds seem to see me coming with my camera and head for the hills. Even through the window I can't get this close. Well done.

A great shot Rita! :) These Grackles are my bigest fans when I go golfing! At least it seems they are alway rooting me on, or is that laughter?

Do you want to scare me Rita?!...This is a stunning and impressive capture of a bird that reminds me of the film 'The Birds' by Alfred Hitchcock, in some way!

Wonderful capture, Rita. It really has a good humor too. The Ruffled thing is often seen amongst humans too. #;oD It seems to be a mechanism built into most humans and animals. Trying to impress our surroundings.#:o) Maybe your neighbour should have left one tree for the birds... But i guess the birds will maybe pick one of your trees instead. #:o)

I guess he saw your camera as another male bird then :-) But he really looks too cute to be scary for me, lucky for him bird ladies are not really my type ;-) I personnaly don't come much to commenting at all times it seems, now it's having to do it at work or in the public library where I get on the internet that stops me, so don't worry about it, whenever you do it, it's appreciated very much!
