Description
In flights of fancy I did so dream
Of fields with flowers along a stream.
There I wandered about in a meadow
That captured my heart in one falsetto.
Along a small and softly flowing brook
I found treasures in a luscious little nook.
I dreamed for hours upon hours
While I watched the dancing flowers.
Their faces looked to the sky
I wondered if upward they would fly.
Come to me my mystical friend
Let this flight of fancy never end.
For beyond the heavens beyond what we know
Is where my dreams of laughter will surely go.
I will climb to the hills there on high
In hopes that my soul to you does fly.
Bring to me your treasure trove
For dreams of light for you I wove.
In flights of fancy I did so dream
That I might sip of honey and cream.
Surely my dreams can all come true
Just as each day I see the moon anew.
Oh my glorious life and light
Allow my heart its fancy flight.
Let me touch the stars in the heavens above
So that I might know one moment of glorious love.
Ah, but the moon is envious of it all
And gives to me its wondrous call.
It sings to my heart's desire
And plays tunes upon a golden lyre.
Singing songs by which to inspire
That I might climb to dreams on higher.
Surely this is but a moment of desire
For which dreams of spun gold I will acquire.
Oh gentle sun I will put the moon to rest
So that you can give me your loveliest best.
The heavens will dance for me far above
And bring flights of fancy on the wings of a dove.
All of these things I bring you and more
For my mother's love is beyond this door.
I have taught you the ways of the world
And a life of possibilities before you unfurled.
Now that I am in the autumn of my years
I have no regrets or soulful tears.
I sent you out into the world unafraid
Knowing that a good life would surely be made
For now I will take my leave
And prepare more flights of fancy to weave.
I shall always keep a watchful eye over you
And bring you stardust in colors of azure blue.
I give these things to you my dear child
In hopes that your life will more easily glide.
Take what you can and make it your own
And for your children make your love known.
For now I shall go around that bend
And call this life's chapter a glorious end.
I shall return once more on the morrow
Oh how parting is such sweet sorrow.
And while I am gone I give you my heart
Because that is where a mother's love does start.
