Description
I created this using IBL from a panoramic HDR image. In PhotoShop I converted the rendered image to B&W and then sepia to mask the 3d characters against the 2d backdrop. I also blurred behind the main character to give some depth. Also some minor touch-ups here and there.
Background image is from Christian Bloch as part of his book, "The HDRI Handbook". I'm trying to get my hands around making my own HDR images, but I've got a long way to go. It's very tedious, but the results are fascinating. Check out his website at www.hdrlabs.com if you're an enthusiast like me.

Great image, haven't attempted HDR yet, maybe some time. I think you nailed the mood. Just watched Shaun of the Dead the other night and this resonates nicely. :)
