Description

This image is thanks to Stonemason and his awesome Greeble City Blocks! You will have heard the theory that the universe is billions of years old, and very, very large, and life seems to be able to survive and even thrive in the most unlikely environments, and so it is probable that the universe is teeming with life, some of it having had millions of more years to evolve than we have. So why have we been unable to detect any extra-terrestrial life? My theory (please call it Phil's Theory if it becomes world famous!) is based on the fact that it has taken mankind barely two hundred years of technology to mess up the planet. What if this is an inevitable pattern - that as soon as a species evolves to be able to create the technology to communicate "off world", they pollute and destroy their own environment to the extent that they either destroy themselves or revert to a more pre-technological state. Therefore while the universe IS probably teeming with life, there may only be brief windows in time when any of it develops to be able to communicate - mere flashes in a silent and dark universe. Let's not mess up OUR world - as in the image - it's all we've got. Thanks for looking - and putting up with my ravings - have a great weekend! Phil P.S. Full View recommended - it's a big image!!

I used to laugh at that expression when my parents used it, now I use it myself as I descend into a caracature of Victor Meldrew! Hope "Phil's Theory" isn't right though. :o) Very nice render, great sense of scale and pollution, very effective!

That a very interesting theory Phil, makes a lot of sense too. Excellent image, those blocks look awesome and the haze is suitably gloomy.

I hope we pass the technology test with half the grace of the elder races of the rest of the galaxy. Those who survive can only watch us to see if we gain wisdom to live or not. Wisdom can only be earned. If given like a present, it's valueless. Very cool and well-done thought provoking piece of work.
