Description
The castle, whose foundation and tower existed since the 11th century, was built by the Carraresi, lords of Padova in the 14th century, during their wars with Verona's lords. It was part of a defensive system around our area. The tower is what is left of the castle. The property was inherited by the Zaborra Earls, who still own it, in the 1600s. In the 18th century the villa as we see it was built. Since 1980 the family has opened a museum of Air and Space, especially built around a very famous episode of World War I, the flight over Vienna by poet and nationalist novelist Gabriele D'Annunzio in early 1919, to convince Austria to surrender. He and his mates organized the deed here and started the flight from this air strip in front of the castle.
The strip, now a field opposite the front facade and divided by a local road, hosts a Republic RF-84F Thunderflash, while in the parking lot there is an Aermacchi MB326.

GENIAL, Y LO QUE VEO ES QUE ES NORMAL TENER UN AVION EN EL PATIO DE CASA. BRILLIANT, AND WHAT I SEE IT IS THAT IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE AN AIRPLANE IN THE hause garden.

Excellent panorama shot and background information Sandra. Very interesting mixture of architectural styles and the planes add their own element to it.

Intéressante photo, avec l' avion de chasse devant il y presque une touche de surréalisme.

The style of the 18th century villa and a jet plane seem so incongruous...but facts are facts and history makes a nice tie between the "castle" and aviation of the 20th century. Fascinating post.
