Description

Pictures taken at a dirt airstrip near Geneseo, NY (south and west of Rochester, NY) in July 2002. Not much time as we had a two-year old grandson in tow. In addition to these WW I replicas, there were three P-51s. The National Guard flew in a Hercules and made a very low level drop of a vehicle, climbed, came around, and landed. Then, to my utter amazement, the Hercules backed up and parked on the grass off the landing strip. Pics taken with a disposable Kodak camera and transferred to CD. I, in my ignorance, resized the images to 500 pxls wide and dumped the CD.

Oooooo! I love airshows, and just the other night I was watching the film 'Fly Boys'. It features some great dog-fighting effects with those DR-1, among others.

Great old planes. Glad you saved these. We were driving through Pueblo CO, and saw they have a museum out by the airport. Of course I thought of you, and we're going to stop there next trip south.

Nice shots Dick. I've looked around and my educated guess on the second aircraft is a British S.E.5a...entered the service in 1917 and was pretty much top of the line at that time. This replica and pictures online appear to me to match.

Great collage. Love the machine gun mounted atop the wing on the British S.E.5a. Who was doing the flying when you had to stand up to use the machine gon. Dana

Great shots! I know of Old Rhinebeck. My favorite WWI aircraft is the Fokker D7. Cantilevered wings and powerful 6 cylinder inline. Oh,yes the C-130 can reverse its prop pitch to back up. If you haven't,check out my site of this years Andrews AFB air show.
