Description

Here is the little caterpillar that hatched from one of the eggs I showed in yesterdays posting. It is a very colorful little critter. By the time it is ready to spin a cocoon, it will be 4" long and basically all green. I included a small image that shows how little this caterpillar is. I hope to follow the progress as it goes through the 5 or 6 moltings (instars) that will occur before it is ready to form a cocoon but only 4 eggs hatched from the 5 I found and the new caterpillars do roam. I could not find any of them the next day but I may get lucky and run across one sooner or later. I know the general area where they probably are, lol. This image was taken after several weeks of trying to figure out the new DSLR system. I am still trying this and that to see what works. Not much is, lol. For this shot, I used a tripod and a borrowed Nikon 105MM macro lens with a +1 diopter. I used spot metering, manual exposure, ISO 200, f/22, 1/200sec shutter speed and the pop up flash set with -1.3 flash compensation. I was an arms length away. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee
