Re: my previous post. I especially like them because they have got me singing the Hey Diddle Diddle rhyme after not thinking about it for years! Best viewed large.

I remember so well the old classrooms I sat in. The large primary-colored, illustrated nursery rhymes at the top of the wall, the bold shapes of the alphabet a third of the way down, a list of students taped next to the door, where A and B papers were never taped to the walls to flutter or flap but always put up orderly so each could be clearly seen on various bulletin boards - each with a certain purpose given to it. Our artwork was taped to the windows so we could share out creations with the community. The long black (yes, black) board at the head of the class with black erasers that had to be clapped each day after class and a contraption that held several pieces of chalk at regular intervals and when dragged across the blackboard, created equal-spaced lines for working on "penmanship". There was always a globe somewhere to be studied. We had drop-top desks that often did not close properly from all the junk we stuffed into them. It was a warm and friendly place that was made to put us at ease for learning, and every student in the class came in each day eager to see what new things the day would bring to us. No parent ever had to request extra attention or help be given to their child...we all got extra attention and help. This was when learning was the only "job" a child was given... teachers were there to teach. Summer was the time for play and sports and learning how to socialize. ahhhhh, see the memories you have brought me? This is a marvelous shot. It reminds me of so much from so long ago.
