I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

Nice work Bob ! Love the loght and shadows and especially those cast by the clouds !

Yeh, that's a really nice terrain apart from that odd spike on the ridge (left side). 30% from top, 20% from right is a dark isosceles triangle, which I think may be a rendering flaw (seems too big for a distant fir tree). If you'd noticed it I'm sure you would have clone stamped it out before uploading. Good work overall.

Bob, is that is a windmill for water? The cabin tucked in there looks cool and inviting, but maybe a solar windmill would look better because that isn't a good place for a water windmill. You only see those in the valley closer to the groundwater. Trees look good in this one, but it makes me wonder why there aren't any trees in the background higher up where they would naturally be if there are already some lower. Maybe a recent fire? Some ideas for your next one...keep up the good work! When you get the chance buy a copy of Mojo, I am sure you can make that program do wonders, especially if you want to work with 3D objects.

I really like the depth and flow of the terrain to the background, Bob. I love the clouds here. I don't think you could have picked a better POV for this scene.

Joe, Using your imagination, consider this just an imaginary place where anything is possible. If the guy that lives in the shack had solar, he'd have a mansion in the suburbs instead of living in the shack. The trees you see are at the top of the 'tree line'. Because of the altitude, trees won't grow any higher than what you see. As for MoJo, I'll stick with TG2 where more realism is possible. I have yet to learn much, much more with the program. What you see here is very elementary.

Superb!

Excellent! I like the added touch of the old fashioned wind turbine too Bob. Gives a nice indication of size & perspective to the terrain.
