Description

Here's a cartoon from yet another calendar. Rozanne (Oscillis) asked how long it takes me to do one of these...It's the thinking up the idea that's the time consuming part. Once you've got the gag the artwork is relatively speedy. Couple of hours to get the basic linework done, and maybe another couple to get the colour finished up. The Cat and Dog cartoons, being somewhat simpler with not much in the way of backgrounds or detail to put in, they only take a couple of hours each to complete. Often, it's the publisher who wants changes made that can slow the whole thing down to a crawl...Dunno what it is with some of em, I think they go on some training course somewhere to teach them how to request pointless changes and amendments. Sigh. It's a hard life... Cheers Rich www.richskipworth.co.uk

Good one! And regarding the workflow/time, why not do a gag about the artist having a bad day and a big publisher crashing through the ceiling shouting "I'd like to see a landscape version of the cartoon - and change the elephant to a hippo instead!" :-)

Gnurf: no, no, it should be a blue whale, of course. And make the picture square. LOL

Shh...don't give 'em ideas. Similar things have happened to me...I did one cartoon featuring a football crowd. The view was from in the crowd looking on to the pitch. Took ages to draw. The publisher, after several meetings with his team of creative henchmen, decided they wanted it viewed from the pitch looking into the crowd...thereby requiring me to redraw an entire crowd WITH facial expressions. AAAG.

It's all for the best really . I had a friend that said that all the time and the most dreadful things happened to her roughly twice a week. She's living in a tent somewhere in Morroco now. Your elephant will probably land on her next and her last words will be "It's all for the best really."

This is a very good funny one! I'm sure Tiger Wood would get a kick out of it! Keep up the good work!
