Description

At San Pelagio Castle in the secret garden there is also the oval marble basin used as a thermal pool. The water is hot because this place is in the area of the warm springs and hot mud typical of the Euganean Hills. The Euganean Hills (Italian: Colli Euganei) are a group of hills of volcanic origin that rise to heights of 300 to 600 meters from the Padovan-Venetian plain a few kilometers south of Padua. The Euganean Hills were formed in a sub-marine outwelling of basaltic lava during the Eocene, which was followed in the Oligocene by an episode of activity characterized by viscous magma, which formed deposits of trachyte. Trachytes were extensively used by the Romans for paving Via Aemilia, the most important road in the Po Plains, and are still used here in Veneto. Thirteen wineries have grouped together under the recently-established Colli Euganei denomination. Wines consist of the White, with its typical straw-yellow colour and jasmine scent, the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon reds, the Chardonnay, the Fior dArancio, the very sweet yellow Moscato, the Merlot, the Novello, the dry Pinello, White Pinot, the sparkling Serprino and the "Italic Tokay". So if you're thirsty, I put some red wine and cheese for you to taste ;D)! Thank you for your kind comments.

I am ready for a little taste. NIce of you to pour the wine...:) What is the basic purpose of the thermal pool as part of the garden? Mud baths...? Or just a unique point of interest in the garden?
