Description

I usually do a Memorial Day image each year to honor those that have lost their lives in the service of their country. This year I'm reposting last year's image just because I can't think of anything that better signifies the meaning of each life lost than the folded flag presented to the next of kin. So, enjoy your holiday here in the US. Have a hot dog, drink a beer, watch a car race, wave a flag. But be sure to take a moment to thank those that have fought and died for this country.
*** Flag made in Hexagon.

An outstanding tribute. Well done ! On this day I always have liked the words of Abraham Lincoln in a letter to a Mrs Bixby, who had lost 5 sons in the Civil War; "I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." So on this day, please take a moment to remember; if not the names, the places. Places like Saratoga, Concord, Gettysburg, Antietam, San Juan Hill, Belleau Woods, Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Sainte Mere Eglise, Chosin Reservoir, Inchon, Khe Sahn, Saigon, Tikrit, Fallujah, Nasiriyah, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost.

Thank you! I will pass this along to all of the troops over here in Iraq, I am sure that it will mean as much to them as it does for me. I have had to deal with the loss of many friends over here and your picture honors each one of them. Once again Thank you

How many lives do we need to waste before we realize that War wasn't the best solution? One sniper bullet at the right time and place would save countless lives in the long run. After we pull out of Iraq, how long can one give before the puppet government is overthrown and another Sadam grabs power? You can't fix stupid. As a Vietnam Vet, what did I accomplish over in Nam? I agree in that we need to remember the fallen soldiers, but more importantly, remember why we needed to lose those men in the first place. When everyone stops waving their flags, the first step towards world peace will have been taken. Great image Dave. Bravo from another Dave :^)
