Description

You can see part of the gatehouse and sunken entrance passage leading to the outlines of the courtyard.A Norse pirate had the first stronghold here, this castle however was started in the 13th century by the Mowatts of Bucholly. In 1616 bought by the Sinclairs of Rattar.Abandoned c 17th century for Freswick castle nearby. Terrific site and no doubt a scary place to explore on foot.
