Description

This is kind of a picture I have not made in many, many years (fanart that is). While reading through my Morgan Kane collection written by "Louis Masterson" (Kjell Hallbing), I thought I'd try to make my version of Kane using the 3D stuff I have. I'm not too satisfied with this pic but on the other hand I didn't put too much work into it. In case anyone wonders, he has a leather sheath (postwork) in his right hand which ties the paralyzed ring finger to the middle finger. I also made a texture and displacement map for the scar in the back of his right hand, but naturally it's not visible here. Maybe I do another render so I can put it into use...

Great interpretation! The pose and POV really set it off well.

I'm not familiar to the character but this fellow looks like the no nonsense type. Cool old west image!

Computer Generated Images always seem to fit Sci-Fi settings so well and seeing a Western themed shot from the future (present) well, I don't know, makes me stop and think. The subject and technology suddenly seem in stark contrast to each other. That said, great looking DS render. I really like his face. Very Zane Grey cover material. The aspect that hurts it the most is the position of his right foot. It should point in parallel with his gun. It's just what stands out to me. Great looking smoke. I'd make the smoke near the gun barrel lighter and bluer. There ya go. There's my two cents for a great looking render.

it's fantastic and while I don't know the Kan Stories (though I'm interested now) it reminds me of the movie "High Noon". superb work

Thank you all! And good points, deci6el. Kane is indeed really interesting and believable character. He is kind of an anti-hero with many faults and bad habits. He's fast but not always the fastest, he drinks a lot, fears gunfights (but doesn't avoid them) and sometimes wants to throw up after he's shot someone, but sometimes has to resist the urge to slaughter everybody in sight. In his youth he's been with bison hunters, a gold digger, scout for the army, gun-for-hire and an outlaw before ending up to be a Texas Ranger and later an U.S. Marshal (he likes to keep the star in his wallet, that's why it's not in the pic). Best in the series is that he gets older. In the first books he is somewhere between 30 - 35 and in the last ones around 50 - 55(?). Some books tell about when he's 15 - 25, before he became a Texas Ranger. He carries Colt Police Special and later Police Positive instead of the classic "Peacemaker" (though he had one around the age of 25). Originally Norwegian Kjell Hallbing wrote 83 books and additional 3 outside the series between 1967 - 1985. I've read all the 80 that have been translated in Finnish, but I think only 41 have been translated in English (and poorly, I've heard) :( The "books" are those a bit over 100-page paperbacks, but for those who are not familiar with the series, I really recommend to read them if you ever find one.
