Gimp 2.6 constantly crashes on me(had to go back to 2.4). You are a brave soul. This is a very imaginative and delicate render!

A calming, peaceful composition, Kathleen, The 'urchins' look almost like film-thin animals / jelly-fish, newly-created and emerging from the smooth, sandy floor of a tidal pool...
