Description

Back when I was spending all my time doing 3-D and painting flowers, a friend of mine asked me to paint him a potato flower, which is one of his all-time favorites. I can't tell you how long I looked for a reference photo. You would be amazed at how many potato festivals there are and how few pictures of potato flowers! One day I was browsing through the galleries here on Renderosity and came upon the work of a new guy ... JeffG7BRJ ... the second thing he ever posted here was a photograph of a potato flower! I asked Jeff if I could use his image as a reference photo, knowing at the time I didn't have the skills to come up with a reasonable version that would do his image justice and please my friend. He graciously agreed, and I saved the image to my hard drive. Over the past couple of years I've looked at it again and again, and finally decided I was up to the challenge. (Of course I still see things I would like to change and improve!) You can see Jeff's original photograph here. That "new guy" has become a valued contributor and friend, and I'm happy to FINALLY be able to share this with you! My friend loved the painting, btw. * whew! * :D Thank you, Jeff, for letting me use your beautiful image! .......... Painted in ArtRage and Photoshop

WOW!! First off, I didn't know that potato's flowered, or is that just the name of a plant? Secondly, this is an amazing painting, your brush strokes give the blossoms a wonderful silky texture. Ok, now I need to go have a beer and talk about manly things!

It's a lovely painting, I didn't know potatoes had flowers, and Dave's dad used to have some in his garden. I should have paid more attention. Very nice work!

Wow!!!!! You have certainly done the image justice Tara, a fantastic job, not only made your friend happy but me also, I love it. I was thinking about this yesterday, the reason being that one of my neighbours has plantaed a South American Potato Vine in her garden which produces the same sort of flower and it has gone wild, the vine is massive. I will take a pic today sometime and post it for you. Thank you so much for this dedication, makes me fel like the new kid on the block did good. I think you have done a sterling job. Bravo!!!!!5+++++
