Description
"Good morning, Doc Harper, Commander Sanju. You've met my XO Sylvia Terrell and my Security Chief Keisha Perry. That was some fine flying you did scouting out this crater, Sanju."
"Thanks. The Coronado's a nimble bird when she wants to be. But Doc Harper's about to go bust if he can't tell you what he found so..."
"Thank you Commander. Well Captain Metcalf, it is going to be an interesting few days if my analysis is accurate. As you can see here, we've managed to extrapolate a complete three-dimensional image of what the Motherlode looks like intact..."
"The what?"
"The Motherlode, Chief Perry...at least that's what the team has started calling her. A bit optimistically perhaps. Anyway, the superstructure is divided into three sections. Through electromagnetic and accoustical scanning, we've determined that the front section is command and control. The rear is engineering...and the center, well the center is where things get interesting.
The center section appears to be divided into a massive amount of small habitats. Given the size of the halls and thoroughfares, we estimate for life forms just a bit larger than humans."
"Crew quarters?"
"Not unless they were comfortable in very cramped conditions. This is obviously a vessel with extreme long range, given the engineering section. The small habitats and the massive number of them, stacked one upon the other, leads me to believe this to be a colony ship."
"A colony ship? That would mean this ship would have a massive amount of data and artifacts."
"Correct, Lieutenant Commander Terrell. If they are anything like our colony ships, they may contain an entire record of this civilization's advancements, culture, history, technology, and even a full sampling of their ecosystem...depending on how much was preserved."
"That would make this the most significant find in the last century or more, Doc."
"Yes, Captain, thus the name...Motherlode. I've determined that it's best if my crew enter at first light at breach number.."
"You're not going in first. I want Perry's Rough Boys to do a sweep and clear. Then you go."
"But Captain! Surely you're aware of the xenoarchaelogical rules of recovery. Someone from my team HAS to go aboard to make sure Perry's men don't disturb anything vital or disrupt forensic or archaeological evidence."
"Fine. One member from your team goes onboard for the first sweep. That's it. If things come up clean, well...we'll see if this ship earned that name you've given her."

Good scene and moving the story along! Would suggest stronger light or more of it to give focus to the speaker instead of the hologram.
